Basildon Sporting Village offers a wide range of accessible facilities to accommodate all needs. Everyone Active’s goal is to encourage everyone to participate in 30 minutes of activity 5 days a week, and our facilities allow this goal to be achieved. Please see our accessibility information below:
Reception
The reception desk has a low section which is accessible to wheelchair users. There is a hearing induction loop installed at the main reception and turnstiles leading from reception into the facility with a separate gate for wheelchair and push chair access.
Lifts
There is a passenger lift to enable access to the gym on the first floor of the facility. The lift has enough space for wheelchair access and lift controls are accessible. The lift provides an audible announcement informing users of doors opening and closing and floor reached.
Toilets and Changing
There is a unisex accessible toilet situated in the reception area and unisex accessible toilets for wet change on the ground floor.
There are unisex accessible changing facilities on the first floor in the fitness suite in between the male and female changing areas. There is a shower seat, adjustable shower head, grab rails and the shower controls at an accessible height.
The changing areas for the fitness suite are located on the first floor within the fitness suite area and are accessible to wheelchair users. There is a larger shower cubicle within the main changing area which is private.
Poolside Facilities
There are cubicles in the main swimming pool changing room which are adapted to make them more suitable for disabled people. They have a shower with seat, toilet and changing bench.
There is a hoist to assist disabled customers getting in and out of the pool. In addition, there is a sloping set of steps with adjacent hand rails to assist customers with mobility difficulties to get in and out of the water.
Gym Facilities
The fitness suite has Inclusive Fitness Initiative accredited Technogym equipment which includes treadmills, upright cycles, recumbent cycle, upper body ergometers and Octane Cross Trainers. There are accredited Power Plates, Gravity Power Towers and Concept 2 rowers.
Catering and Vending
The Café counters and displays are accessible to wheelchair users and there is a table waiting services available for customers who need it and staff are available to support customers to use the vending machines.
Activity Provision
The facility provides a wide range of additional activities, opportunities and events which are accessible and inclusive to disabled people and work in partnership with Occupational Therapy and Specialist Community Health Teams. Basildon Sporting Village delivers the ‘Sport for Confidence’ programme which includes swimming, boccia, trampolining, gymnastics, athletics, fencing, cricket and curling and has been developed according to consultation and requests from customers.

About this Centre
One of the local area’s leading leisure centres, Basildon Sporting Village offers a fantastic array of facilities. Swimmers can enjoy the Olympic-size swimming pool – that can be split into two 25m pools – while the 100-station gym is packed with the latest kit. There’s also an enormous eight-court sports hall, as well as an indoor climbing wall with routes that are perfect for both beginner and expert climbers alike.
We’re also home to the South Essex Gymnastics Club, as well as Olympic champion gymnast Max Whitlock. Meanwhile, athletes can take advantage of our 400m running track and other athletics facilities.
This centre has implemented a cashless system. This has significantly reduced queuing times and improved customer service.

Swimming Pool
Our competition standard 50m, eight-lane swimming pool is a flexible space for swimmers of all ages and abilities to enjoy. It can be converted into two 25m pools, and there’s also our teaching pool too. Basildon’s an ideal place to learn to swim on our award-winning Swim Scheme.
Sports Hall
From badminton to basketball, volleyball, netball and table tennis, our eight-court sports hall is available to hire for a whole host of activities. Our fantastic sports centre also hosts innumerable activities throughout the year.
